Maybe it depends on where you live because this thing did not work for me. I tried every radio stations and none of them worked, all I could hear was static. Amazon took it back without any trouble at all though.

I have gone through several FM transmitters, like many other iPod/iPhone users - looking for that magic transmitter that would work consistently and provide good audio.
Depending on where your accessory plug (cigarette lighter) is in your car, this device can be difficult to tune due to the display not articulating. it is flat on top of the connector power connector. This is not a tremendous hassle, but made tuning on my car a little more trying.
The upside of this device is that it works way better than any other transmitter that I have tried. It has a 3.5 mm connector instead of a dedicated iPod port connector - so it will work with anything that has a headphone jack. The signal is clear and will override some of the weaker stations. The sound quality is quite good; many times there isn't even the low level of static that many of the better transmitters still have.
The bad new is that iRiver has not made this transmitter in some time. They are hard to find, and fetch a premium price - but for good reason.

We have been cheated by iRiver -- 2010-07-21
I purchased the unit as a gift to a friend of mine, only to find out that he could not use it because he doesn't have computer to charge the battery. Why would iRiver produce a product like this? If I had known that I wouldn't have purchased it. Now, the unit is sitting in his drawer. SHAME ON IRIVER.

I purchased this product to record lectures broadcast over an FM station at the lecture hall. Lots of available memory. Battery lasted for the 3 hour am sessions. I was traveling and had no access to an outlet during the day.
Now all the reviews I read only delt with the music, video, & pictures. These are great features and easy to use. The only reason I purchased this was for the FM recorder feature. So very easy to use. The only problem I had was where I set the unit I would have trouble with reception. An easy fix. Now transfering to WMA was very easy and once it was transfered the files were not automatically deleted. A bonus for me. I wish there was a charger available that would recharge using batteries for travel. Maybe some day. When I contacted iriver they were very helpful and quick to respond to my questions;this was before I purchased the unit. You can set the record quality. The higher the quality the more memory it will take up. I would recommend practicing with it before you have a special recording to do. If you are looking for an easy to use mp3 player and FM recorder I would recommend this one for the price. I am very happy with my purchase.
Good player for the price -- 2010-04-27
Ok, I picked up this player on a whim really. I have a phone that does a lot of what this does, but I wanted a better picture and something that would kick out more volume. In both of these the lPlayer does fine. When I loaded some videos onto it, I watched them on the train and was very please with the picture quality and the sound.
Now, the problem is getting videos onto it. I'm a PC tech, so I figured it shouldn't be too hard. Not true. The software is comes with is very picky about what it will convert. You can't rip from a DVD. You can't play MP4 files from iTunes. I spent several hours trying to find suitable converters. Try Extra DVD Ripper Free to get suitable AVI files. I'm not sure why iRiver made a video player with few options of actually playing videos. Once you have a system down, it's fine. Setting it up is a headache.
Pictures are good and I've loaded up several. I haven't tried out the music player yet, but I'm sure it sounds good.
The file organization is a problem. I spend about an hour trying to get XP to recognize it with no luck. Vista found it and the hard drive is much like a flash drive, but once the files have been uploaded to the player it seems to have problems with folders. I ripped my Blue Planet DVDs onto it into a folder called 'Blue Planet.' But on the player it still reads as 'New folder.' Whatever. Annoying but it could be worse.
All in all for $50 or so you're probably going to be happy. Don't expect to much, be willing to deal with some bugs and annoyances and you'll be good to go.

Very solid player -- 2010-06-02
I don't usually write reviews, but I thought this product deserved one- I was riding my bike recently, going downhill pretty fast, and the iRiver slipped out of my pocket onto the asphalt road, skidded probably over 10 meters, bouncing painfully along the way. Lo and behold, it was still playing when I picked it up, as if nothing extraordinary happened. Suffered a few scratches to the back surface but it seems fine otherwise. 5 stars for durability.
Works great in Linux / survived a dunking in the toilet -- 2010-05-05
Some might argue those two qualities are the same. The player mounts in Linux when you set it up as an MSC device and you can drag and drop music. The biggest deal is that as of version 0.12.8 Rhythmbox can write playlists for the e100 that you can access from the e100. That's important because once you have a few gb of music on there it's a laborious process to move from song to song.
Updating the firmware is a bit of a hassle in Linux but it's possible ... for now.
Yeah the toilet. The player rates 5 stars for portability but now I would recommend an arm band. It slipped out of a back pocket and right into the toilet while it was on and playing out of its little speaker. It actually kept playing underwater for a few seconds, then something gave, bubbles started coming up and the music stopped. I fished it out after about 20 seconds. It kept making this pathetic choking sound out of the speaker. Attempts to turn it off failed. I dried it and wrapped it in toilet paper and figured that was its death shroud. It sat in there choking and sputtering for a day. Every time I tried to turn it off and put it out of its misery it just kept coughing. Eventually all was quiet. A few days later on a whim I turned it on, and it lived! I plugged it in, charged it up and it sounds just as good as it did. Oh yeah I cleaned it up too.
I'd give it 5 stars if the firmware update was easier and it was easier to navigate.
I haven't tried video on it but jpgs are nice.

Great features, very nice player -- 2010-07-25
I had an iriver e100, which is very similar and is an older model. It was lost or stolen, and I got a good deal on an ipod nano, so I bought the ipod. The ipod has a cooler interface with its jog dial, but that is the only thing I like better about the nano over the e150. The ipod has a built-in camera and video recorder, but I have a much better quality camera on my cell phone, so the ipod camera does not get used.
Most of my audio files are in the ogg format. I have movies that are in the mov, avi and wmv formats. The e150 plays all of these formats,and plays mp3's and flac as well. It comes with video conversion software to convert movie files to the wmv format optimized for the iriver's screen. This reduces the size of most avi's to abut 1/4 of the disk space of the original.
The battery life is very good. I can watch 2 movies that are about 2 hours long each on a fully charged battery. The battery lasts a lot longer when the screen is off and I am just playing audio files ( I am guessing, but I estimate the battery to last about 10-12 hours when just listening to audio.)
One standout feature for the e150 is the line-in jack. I can record from about any source that has line-level out. There is also an internal microphone, so I can use that to record as well. The internal mic does surprisingly well. I have recorded several lectures, and the recordings were very clear.
For me, this is a great player. If this one gets lost, I will replace it with another iriver e150.
Outstanding Value, BUT... -- 2010-01-12
Package is nicely sized for the unit. It is not overpackaged and doesn't come in a big plastic bubble you have to hacksaw your way into. The E150 has good form and fit, a clean appearance and unusual for any mp3 player or small electronics, it has fitted covers for its USB and sD slots to keep out dust dirt and moisture.
Quality of output sound from the player is very good, and output power is comparable to the iPod but earphones are minimal, below quality of average mp3 player units especially at higher frequencies. No big deal if you already have good earphones.
It is too big to be a clip-on type of unit. It is about twice the size and mass of the iPOD nano. It has a comparable play-per-charge. It has too many functions to be simple. It has six major modes of operation: Music, Video, Picture, FM Radio, Text, Record.
The interface is clutzy and non-intuitive. The main controls are 4 directional buttons which are beneath the plastic surface of the unit, centered on a square select button. The controls often do not respond on first push, maybe bad debouncing circuitry? User Manual is basic but could be clearer. For instance, the main navigation buttons to be used are installed as I said below the flat plastic cover, around the square select button. They are indicated by small barely visible caret figures made up of black dots. It wasn't obvious to me that you push on the flat surface where the caret symbols were and the manual didn't make an effort to clue one in.
Radio has awkward tuning controls, one must hit the 'up' button for higher freqs instead of the more intuitive 'right', 'down' instead of 'left'.
But if you are patient, the E150 does many tricks, plays many formats of music, has a good radio, plays videos, stores and shows various data formats.
AND It has two notable interfaces in addition to all the others:
1) It has a slot for microsD cards- the same idea as on the Sansa clip+. The E150 manual indicates that a card is to be installed when the E150 is off. in order to hear music on extenal card you must go to MUSIC>Dir List and select External (versus Internal). This is awkward.
2) It has a line-in input. It can take 2-channel input from an external source and capture it for playback in Windows Media format. I am not aware of ANY other comparable unit with this feature.
CONCLUSION: Well worth the money if you use it, but not likely to remain in the marketplace because it is not obvious how to use it and it isn't being promoted heavily. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that it isn't being made any more.
Construction Quality is adequate but I suspect not durable.

Better Than an iPod -- 2010-08-01
This has more features than an iPod, better sound quality, is easier to manage and maintain, has better video quality, and is much more flexible. There are some quirks, though. FLAC files won't play if blutooth is running and the interface can be slow when blutooth is running. However, it's great to own a portable media player that allows me to drag and drop songs onto the device and can play more than one type of file without additional conversion (which destroys the sound quality).
put a "spinn" on your music -- 2010-06-29
The iRiver Spinn stands pretty well on it's own. The sound quality is excellent and the numerous features it offers over similar MP3 players is a plus as well. After being an iPod owner for several years I wanted a change and boy did I get it! The only thing I wish the player had was a speaker similar to its earlier model the iRiver E100.

I really cannot recommend the T7. Sound is good, ogg support a plus, but the play, fast forward, rewind buttons and especially the menu button requires too much pressure to activate. Plus the software is very slow and unresponsive. But the biggest negative is the player doesn't resume where it was last turned off which is the logical mode. If I break for lunch half way through The Linux Link Tech Show I want it to resume where I turned it off. Actually I was so disappointed with the T7 that I immediately bought a Samsung U5 and I love it....half the memory but twice the machine.
Not bad.. -- 2009-03-18
Good little player overall. I needed an mp3 player with a USB connector, and this one has one hidden inside it so it works out perfectly since I don't have to carry around any extra connectors. I travel a lot and the less connectors the better. The package comes with an extension cord if you can't fit the USB connector in a tight space on your computer.
Also, when I'm on the road and get a rental car, they either have an auxiliary input or USB connection (i.e. Microsoft SYNC) and this player does both without being bulky.
You can choose from MSC and MTP Connection Type modes. MSC mode allows you to use your Volcano as a typical thumbdrive (drag&drop files) and you can play music straight off of it when connected to your computer/laptop. I'm not a fan of MTP mode so I cannot comment on that. Switching between the two modes will require a format of the Volcano. Sports a nice OLED screen as well.
Downsides: buttons are too dark to see easily (but I bought a black one so what can you do? hah.) You can't browse music while music is playing (it just stops). I haven't figured out how to put it in shuffle mode, but I haven't read the manual yet.

Ok Player -- 2009-12-04
I bought this as a gift. The first one I bought was defective. Amazon immediately replaced it. The biggest problem with the second was that is turns itself on whenever it wants to, draining the battery. the screen is easy to read and the music palys great. It's easy to load. I wouldn't buy another however. Go with iPod.
Decent, but won't buy another one -- 2009-05-01
I don't want to make this a long review. This was my first MP3 player and I generally refuse to buy apple products so after a bit of research I bought one of these about 3 years ago. Up until a couple months ago it worked fine. The user interface with this thing is OKAY...you can only scroll up and down with the "slider". Upon reaching the bottom of any menu the curser doesn't "warp" back to the top, instead you have to manually scroll back up. So if you're listing hundreds of songs alphabetically and you reach ZZ Top, you have to scroll all the way back up to ABBA (note: I don't have ABBA on my player, just using it as an example!) insted of the curser just warping back to the top. This isn't a problem per se, unless you're like me and one day your slider stops working and will only scroll up, and not down. So basically I have a perfectly functioning iRiver other than the slider, and I can't do things like select songs, adjust the volume, or navigate the menus AT ALL, rendering the device utterly useless. Pity. I guess 3 years is an okay lifespan for such a device. I took it mountain biking and it probably got bounced around in pockets and such, but it was never dropped or slammed. Seems to be a sturdy device all around.
And yes, the thing had a tendency to freeze up and requires you to push a tiny button with a paper clip or thumb tack. Very annoying when you're without one and you can't get the device to do anything because it's frozen. It is pretty much plug and play, meaning you plug in the transfer cable to your PC via USB and you can drag and drop. It does come with proprietary transfer software but it's clunky - it also doesn't like to play nicely with vista even with a software update available from iRiver. Works fine with XP but the best thing is to just not use it at all.

interacting with your PC is a major headache, but -- 2009-11-08
This item works very well for recording and playing back, and it's fabulous that you can record both FM radio and ambient sound with a mic. It works great for music demos, although a real piano can drown out your voice. But, if you want to actually hook it to a computer to send files back and forth, you might be in for a major headache. Instead of setting it up as a simple storage device, iRiver found it necessary to create a proprietary recording format and special iRiver manager software which usually won't detect that the device is connected to the computer without major headaches. I have owned the device for 2-3 years, and I have often been unable to simply plug it into the computer and send files back and forth. It sometimes takes 30 minutes or more to overcome the "Disconnected" status, even though the device itself knows it is plugged in and displays "USB Connected". Sometimes you never do get it connected and then just have to wait until another day when, for whatever mysterious reason, it will suddenly work again. Then, once you do get it hooked up, you can't move MP3 files off the device to your computer. Even if they're your own music. Because iRiver thinks the record companies who *might* lose sales are more important than their customers.
I like the device itself a lot, but I am often frustrated when trying to deal with the software linking it to my PC. If not for that, this would easily deserve five stars. As it is, one star is too many. I've wasted hours and hours trying to hook this to my computer, and I'm dealing with the same problem again tonight and, frankly, would love to wring the neck of whoever designed this thing.

This product is great. This is my second iriver AFT-200 FM transmitter. My first one died after almost 3 years! I like it because it will transmit over many stations even those with semi strong signals. I am in NYC where almost every channel has some sort of broadcast, the irviver will transmit over it. Trust me I know crappy tranmsitters I have the zune transmitter and it barely works, i now use it only to charge my zune in the car!!!! The iriver is cheap and it won't go wrong if it works in a city like ny it will work everywhere!
iriver radio adapter -- 2008-06-21
The radio adapter is relatively easy to use. The only thing that can be problematic is you have to use a radio station not currently in local use. Unfortunately I have found in some cars that there is no option to automatically tune your radio, it only has the scan/seek button so you can never get to a point where you have a non-receptive station. That is more of a car issue than anything. Aside from that I have no complaints.
