SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 2 GB MP3 Player (Black)

Really great -- 2010-09-03
The best thing about this product is the open formats it supports. This includes not only files like ogg, flac, and mp3 files but also the fact that it uses a standard mini-usb port for both charging and file transfer and also a mini SD card to expand the memory. That means you can charge it with many standard mobile phone chargers.
The gui is good too allowing you to navigate by folder OR by artist. This is really good if you organize your files by folder.
Also, it has a RADIO.
Battery life appears a bit short, meaning that you may not be able to leave it on all day.

Great Li'l Player -- 2010-09-03
The Sansa Clip+ is a great little music player. It has good sound from ear buds, the car aux input and from a portable radio. Being a firm believer in KISS, there was a little difficultly getting music files onto the player until I used format on the player. Now it's just drag & drop. Simple. The Sansa Clip+ is a great player for its tiny size and for the price.

Great Value until it Breaks -- 2010-08-30
I loved this MP3 for all of its awesome features, and if it weren't for its functional problems, it would have been the ideal MP3 for me. Cheap and great features. However, from the beginning, it occasionally had the random problem of turning off suddenly without warning (this happened a couple times), and then finally, after only using it three weeks (very few times within those three weeks), it shut off and wouldn't turn on or recharge. I'm returning it to Amazon and will hopefully find a more reliable MP3 player.

Excellent value for what it does. -- 2010-08-29
In the days of cell phones doing everything, it seems portable media players are becoming a niche item. Getting a cheap yet decent one is the name of the game, and this device delivers.

* In addition to playing MP3 audio, like just about every other player does, it also OFFICIALLY supports FLAC and OGG Vorbis audio, which is quite a rarity for any DAP.
* As advertised, the device supports viewing JPEG images and MPEG4 videos.
* It supports microSDHC, which allows the use of such cards up to 32GB in size. Note that you do not need a SD card adapter, as the device allows you to access the microSD card as a seperate USB mass storage device when set to MSC mode. You can save a buck here.
* It also includes a small microphone to record things, such as reminders.
* The FM radio tuner can also be recorded from if so desired.
* The proprietary connector on the bottom has line-level audio output that you can use if you can find a device that has the right pins for it. Useful for home stereos or FM transmitters for cars.
* As of this writing, Rockbox on the Fuze V2 is -almost- stable; the Rockbox devs have done a stellar job getting support for this device going, although you wouldn't know it unless you've been keeping track of SVN commits.
* Brand-new, you'll probably get approximately 18-22 hours of runtime if you play songs constantly. Actual runtime will probably vary with the format you play (mp3, flac, ogg vorbis, etc).
* The Fuze supports obeying Replay Gain tags on MP3 files, possibly on FLAC and OGG Vorbis as well. In a nutshell, this means that you can even out the volume of your music collection and prevent clipping losslessly. Wikipedia has more information on it.

There's some gotchas, however:
* If -any- files are added or removed from the device while connected via USB, it will trigger the player to re-index your media upon disconnect. If you have the internal flash and microSD card nearly full to bursting, this could take upwards of three minutes, so don't move files too frequently if you can avoid it.
* When seeking to the next song in the official firmware, there's a relatively large (~500ms) pause while it buffers. This pause tends to be shorter if the track is in internal storage, but it's still very noticable. Rockbox does not have this problem.
* The video playing aspect is very picky about media. Officially, you're supposed to use the Sansa Media Converter; however, the SMC doesn't work too well for many people, including myself. Instead, you can use a third-party tool called video4fuze (really just a GUI around mencoder and fuzemux) to transcode the video to the appropriate format (DivX 5, ~300-500Kbit/s, 20FPS, keyframe every 15 frames, 128Kbit CBR MP3 audio) and set the appropriate bits in the AVI file itself to make the device play it. The video quality is unfortunately quite blocky no matter what you do, but it's still fairly decent. The screen is so small anyway that you're unlikely to even WANT to watch a full-length movie on it.
* The FM tuner is unlikely to work well unless reception is pretty good. I don't live in a particularly urbanized area, so the stations I get have some pretty heavy static. If you've used the radio on a Walkman or Walkman-like device, you know what I mean.
* While connected to the computer, the Fuze is unusable. An animation plays on the screen and it tells you if it's being written to or read from, but you can't actually do anything on it until you unplug it. Rockbox allows you to use it while it's plugged in, but Rockbox doesn't support USB data transfer on the Fuze v2 at the time of this writing.

Overall, the device isn't perfect, but it's pretty close to perfection; close enough for me, anyway; video playback feels more like a gimmick on this device, but I knew that when I clicked the Order button; it's nice just to have the screen real-estate to read what song is playing. I can safely say that, so far, I've been extremely satisfied with this device, and I would highly recommend it. If you want to save money and only want music support, look for the Sansa Clip+.

Add Rockbox to have a Great Player -- 2010-09-03
I have great luck with the Clip. Great battery life. Not real happy with the Santa firmware. No file browser. Limited control. Add the pitch issue and the Clip is just OK. Add Rockbox software to the Clip and all issues are gone. Control for every player feature..sound, pitch, and controls. Rockbox for the clip is currently in a "unsupported" mode. USB transfer is not supported under Rockbox. When the clip is connected to a PC or laptop. The normal Clip firmware runs. I move whatever files that I want over the the Clip, disconnect the Clip, and turn the Clip off. When the Clip is turned on again, Rockbox boots...sound is great!

32GB -- 2010-09-02
I also got a 32GB Micro Sd card. The good news- an incredible amount of storage. But be warned- the refresh cycle can take up to 2 hours!

Was taken by surprise !!!! -- 2010-09-01
Well, I was completely taken by surprise when I opened the box and hooked it up and started listening to my favorite music on this. This player is damn good (probably cuz i didnt really expect much out of it.)

This player does what its meant to do. Nothing more nothing less.Very small in size and I actually bought this for me mom but really thinking of having it for myself.. lol.

Anyways worth every penny spent on it.

The Clip Delivers -- 2010-08-31
Having owned a Sandisk Clip 2 gig MP3, I had no reservations about buying the Sandisk Clip 4 gig MP3. I wanted more songs for those long trips (My Scion xb has a kick-ass stereo with an MP3 plug). I went from western Pennsylvania to the Jersey Shore, about an 11 hour round trip, and didn't come close to going through my whole song list. My only complaint; The songs play at different levels even though they were all loaded on at the same time. I seemed to be playing with the volume constantly. I'm not sure why but some songs were fine at a volume level of 25 while others had to be turned up to 40 to achieve the same volume. All in all an excellent little MP3 for the price.

Not very durable, but I keep buying them -- 2010-08-31
I really like these, being on my fourth one in four years. They sound great. I use them 95% of the time for cardio workouts at the gym. But no matter how out-of-the-way I clip them, they pick up a little sweat every workout. After about a year they short circuit and die from it. At this price point it works for me to keep buying replacments. But I can't speak for you.

just what I was looking for! -- 2010-08-27
I was looking for something economical, portable, and that did not require a proprietary software to operate (like iTunes with iPod)...this fits the requirements and I've had no complaints thus far.

SanDisk Sansa Clip+ 4 GB MP3 Player (Red)) -- 2010-09-03
I love this little player. I am over 6o and never had an mp3 player before. I am amazed at how much it can hold, how great it sounds and all that it can do. It is so simple to operate. The description says Red but it is really dark like a maroon, if that makes any difference. A good pair of headphones makes it even better. I bought the Sennheiser PX 200 II B closed ear minis, that fold up, from Amazon for 69.95. You will not be able to find a better price. Great for jogging. I can't think of any thing I don't like about the player.

Poor Battery Life -- 2010-09-03
I purchased this unit for my wife because I had one that I had been using since Jan '10. The battery on my unit ran out and they are not replacable. Knowing that, this unit will probably never get used. You get what you pay for. Purchase an IPod and save yourself the headache.

BOOK LOVERS BUY THIS PLAYER! -- 2010-08-28
NOTE this REVIEW is for BOOK listener only! BUY the CLIP not the CLIP+!
If you haven't tried the regular CLIP for books, I recommend it. Books, unlike music, average from 5 to 14 hours long. They have to be chopped to 45/60 min files for downloading. These parts do not correspond to chapters. When you stop you may not notice which part number you stopped at. When you restart the CLIP and select your book from the Audiobook folder, it highlights the last part number you were at. When you select that file, it asks you if you want to resume or start from the beginning. Also if you are listening and are interrupted you can pause and restart. If you missed what was being said, due to loud noise or your boss... you can hold down the rewind and go back to the exact spot, even if you were at the beginning of a new file and wanted to rewind to the end of the last file. This scenario happens often when listening to books. That is why the CLIP is so great. It knows the difference between a book part and an individual song when you load the files to the AUDIOBOOK folder!
WARNING !!!
Unlike the original CLIP the CLIP+ treats each Audiobook part as a separate song. If you accidentally fast forward to the next book segment (file) you cannot rewind to the previous part. You can only jump back to the beginning of the previous part and fast forward through the 45 min or 60 mins to the place you want. If you miss this place and fast forward to the next part you have to start all over at the beginning of the previous file.
The tech support does not even know that this is a problem. I was told mine was broken. I exchanged it for a new one and it does the same thing. Even if you create a play list (they recommended that as a solution) it treats each book part as separate song and starts from the beginning of each file. I have tested this against my regular CLIP using the same books and transferred the same way.
SO BUY THE ORIGNAL CLIP WHILE IT LASTS.
By the way, don't use MEDIA PLAYER to transfer, it does not recognize the AUDIOBOOK folder, you have to drag and drop into that folder with your File Manager. If you are using AUDIBLE use the AUDIBLE folder. If you downloaded library books with OVERDRIVE software make sure to transfer to the Audiobook folder.
I am a loyal Sansa fan; I had 2 Sansa Express's and 2 Sansa Clips, but this new CLIP + is such a disappointment!
SANSA why are you ignoring the growing Audiobook market and downgrading a such great product?

Minor Flaw, Major Mistake -- 2010-08-23
This was a Great MP3 player... When it worked, which was for 2 DAYS! I don't see why there wasn't a cover put over the USB port. Seriously who in the Design dept. decided "Oh we'll save an extra Nickel and leave the port exposed so when the consumer takes it for a workout, it will allow sweat to Destroy the player!" Brilliant Sandisk, you just lost another customer...

Very Poor Reliability and SanDisk Support For Hardware Failure -- 2010-08-30
I have had this MP3 player only 15 months and the video has failed. Started occasionally acting up after 12 months. $62 for an MP3 player that only lasts a 1.25 years is very poor value. SanDisk will not do anything after the 12 months warranty, no repair, no exchange, no prorated exchange, nothing! I will not buy any more of their products because of the short service life and SanDisk's support policy for units just out of warranty.

After a Year of Use -- 2010-08-28
I figured after a year of use I can right a review about this mp3 player. I got my Sansa fuze in February 2009 after my car was broken into and my cheap samsung mp3 player was stolen. I am now looking for a new mp3 player because starting last night the screen goes white, it still plays but I have to turn it off and turn it back on, in order to see the screen. I usually use this in my car with an fm transmitter and in the gym in an arm band. I carry it around in my purse and it is scratched up and the paint on the back is almost gone. In other words I used it daily for the past year and a half. I used it driving from Houston to San Antonio, to and from work, to and from the gym, at the gym, on bike rides and 3 hour walks. I also have used the head phone hole to hook it up to a stereo I have and play it in the house. I use the usb to recharge it either on my desktop computer or my laptop when I go out of town.

Pro:
Drag and drop feature
Easy to scroll through songs
Plenty of memory
Battery life
Durable
not forced to download software

Con:
It sometimes goes white when charging (website tells you how to reset)
Takes forever to delete a song on the mp3 player

All in all this mp3 player did its job and worked well. I would buy another one but I am hoping that Sony S544 will be better. I have a couple videos and about 1,000 songs on my mp3 player, yet it still has space for more. I used the voice recorder once just to see if it works and it does; but I didn't buy it for that. I use the golist for songs to use in the gym and I also rate my songs because you can also play the top rated songs as an option.

I guess if you are lucky to get one that doesn't have issues then you will be extremely happy. The drag and drop feature is my favorite. I didn't need any additional info and I haven't had to worry about updating it like my last player. I did not install any software and was happy about that because with the samsung mp3 I could not use it without the software and when that wouldn't work because I did not have internet neither did the mp3 player. However, not with my Sansa. I was still able to copy and paste songs from my computer even though I didn't have internet. If only we could rate internet providers. :/

If you want an easy to use mp3 player for music this will work for you. If the S544 doesn't work I will definitely get another one.

Sansa E250 V2 -- 2010-08-30
This over all MP3 player was amazing and way better than any ipod, music is easy to transfer, sound quality is amazing, durable, and stylish... I would recommend this for anyone who wants to buy a cheap, better than ipod MP3 player. You can listen to radio and watch movies along with view pictures... I thought it was a great buy!... and lets not forget that it has virtually unlimited memory with an SD card slot. 5 Stars

Did not work at all. -- 2010-08-27
It did not work at all. And I returned it right away. Bad. Never buy again.

Good price, great product -- 2010-09-02
My husband dropped his first one (older model) too many times, but it had been a great item for a long time so we decided to try another one. Still like it, good price, great product, easy to use.

Awesome, Ipod killer. -- 2010-08-15
I love the Sansa Fuze. All of my coworkers have them. I love the option, that I can just insert a MicroSD memory card, and expand my storage space. The earbuds, are average sounding, but a pair of JVC haxf66B's, solved that issue for me. The radio reception, is very very good. The appearance is awesome, it just looks cool! I haven't watched any pictures, or movies, but I'm sure the Fuze can handle those task, with ease. You know, I really haven't seen very many of those Ipods, around my work place lately.

1. Great Looks,
2. expandable memory,
3. Drag, and Drop,-Copy, and Paste,
4. Awesome FM reception.
5. Reasonably PRICED,

Hmmm, Dude, I think, I know where those Ipods are.
