 | Samsung P3 Palm Theatre Plus 8 GB MP3 Player (Silver)
Doesn't do all it claims -- 2010-01-25 I bought it because it claimed to be an organizer type as well as a media player. It had a great picture and sound but the software was over complicated. Not user friendly. Support did not help. They would send you to the software company and they software company would do the same. The directions were not helpful at all. I returned it after all.
This does it all ~ -- 2009-11-20 I bought this player a while back, and haven't had much time to play with it. I use it a few times a week ~ I wish I had more time, because it has so many features. It's very easy to use.. I have used it for music, videos, movies, voice recordings, and have messed around with the bluetooth feature. I have used ipods in the past, and the itouch, but I prefer this, the sound is awesome - and not that I care much, but not everyone and their brother has a P3 ... I saw a video for it on youtube, and was sold, bought it that day ~ Also - great display, and very cool animated butterfly, coffee cup, etc ...

Sound Quality vs. the Ipod Nano 5th Gen -- 2010-03-01 While at first glance the P3 may seem like an ipod touch competitor, this player is actually more similar to the ipod nano. The iPod Touch is multi-function pocket computer -- it does internet/email, sophisticated gaming, etc. However the P3 and Nano are meant to be music vessels -- music oriented devices with limited capacity for extras such as games and video.
I did a little test with a silver 16gb P3, a 16gb 5th gen nano, some Dire Straits songs, and a decent (but not outstanding) pair of Audio-Technica over ear headphones. While the P3 doesn't blow the Nano out of the water as far as sound quality (listening to the same songs at same bit rate back-to-back on each player), there is noticeable difference in sound quality. The P3's sound is rich with space and depth, where the nano sounds slightly duller by comparison.
The nano's sound is quite decent, and I'm not an apple-hater (i love my macbook), but the P3 just sounds better.
I originally disliked the idea of touchscreen interface because the thought of fingerprints all over my screen seemed repulsive. But after actual hands on use I prefer the P3's touchscreen interface to the nano's click wheel. The P3's controls are intuitive and can be done with only one hand. The click wheel on the nano has become located so near the bottom of the player that it can be a bit of a pain to use. That being said, the P3 and its touchscreen is just more fun than the clickwheel. I can live with the fingerprints after all.
My only disappointment with the P3 is the casing material. From the pictures the player looks to have a full metal casing. However, the only actual metal is on the back of the player, the front is actually similarly colored plastic. While, the player still feels solid, this was a surprising discovery. I anticipated the P3 would be about twice as thick as the nano, and that's true. The P3 would be perfect if it were a little thinner.
All in all, if you care about sound quality in a music-oriented player, the P3 is superior to the very good iPod Nano.
Also, the P3 supports drag-and-drop functionality so it works with macs. Before you connect it to the you mac you have to go into the settings on the player and switch the mode from MTP to UMS -- and presto its mac/linux friendly!
A little better than the P2 -- 2010-02-03 Supports multiple video formats and about 2-4 more formats than the P2. FM radio does not work properly unless you have the headphones plugged in since it uses it as an antenna. Interface is okay but I prefer the locking feature in the P2.

Dead in the water -- 2010-03-06 Received the Samsung P3 as a replacement for a COWON S9 that just didn't live up to it's reputation, however........... the P3 lasted about 5 days. I followed the on line instructions to the letter and it performed quite well, audio quality not as good as I expected, or for the money.
Yesterday it wouldn't turn on and eventually I realized it was dead. I returned it yesterday to Amazon for a refund. I will stick to Sony MP3 players in future. Once bitten, twice shy!
Samsung P3 Palm Theatre Plus 32 GB MP3 Player (Black) -- 2010-01-06 This player has the most amazing sound of ANY MP3 player out there .(I own most of them)
If sound/music is your bag, This is a MUST player to own. You will NOT be disappointed in its' ability to reproduce any album music as they were meant to be heard.
You can read the specs and reviews to/for this amazing player here or cnet. It's all true.
The software package for ripping, etc. has it's issues as does all the other players with their rippers.
I suggest using any other rippers (including Windows Media player 11) instead of the software that comes with this player.
Regardless of what/which MP3 ripper you use, drag and drop to the device works just fine.

O.K. Product With Minor Issues -- 2010-03-03 I purchased this item as an upgrade to my Samsung P2 8gb because I needed more storage capacity. Overall the P3 has many of the functions of the P2 so I was familiar with set-up and functions. Or so I thought. When I first plugged the player into my PC, the player started to transfer all of the photos and music files from the PC. I have over 32gb of this stuff so it crashed the player. Nowhere did I see that in order to select the items you want to load, you need to deselect the "sync when connected" box in the options tab. Once I reset the player and deleting the files I didn't want I was good to go. After I downloaded my files I noticed that very little of the album art was showing up for the music files even though the album art is displayed in the Library. It seems that this is a known problem using Windows Media Player 11 for those who rip CD's because the album art is not embedded in the file and does not transfer to MP3 player. So now I need to research on the internet for a resolution. Overall I still think this is a good product with great sound and applications. But beware of some of the minor glitches found.
Bad product, worse customer service -- 2010-02-27 This mp3 player crashed the second time I used it, after I started using the included Emodio software. At first, I was impressed with the customer service, since I was emailed a shipping label immediately to send the product in for service. According to the tracking number provided by UPS, Samsung's repairs department received the item on January 27th. On January 30th, I received an email stating that the item had not been received at the repairs department, and if it was not received in 48 hours, my service request would be cancelled. A new service request was placed on February 1st, and I have yet to hear back any update about my mp3 player. Several phone calls to Samsung's "Executive Customer Relations" department (and I use the phrase loosely) have yielded 4 dropped calls, 1 extremely rude customer relations employee, and 2 promises of "as soon as I hear anything, I will let you know." Needless to say, I am less than thrilled with this product, but especially with Samsung's idea of what it is to serve your customers. The best advice I can give anyone who is considering this product is to save your time and buy something that actually works.

- it has excellent FM reception (it uses the earphones for the antennae)
- it has excellent radio recording
- 2 GB memory
- Long battery life (in part due to the small screen)
- USB port for instant connection to ANY computer (don't need to worry about compatability)... and itunes will not erase your playlist
- excellent interface, reminiscent of the ishuffle
- light, portable, and rugged
- voice recording (up to 20 hrs of continuous playback)
- your choice of color
- preset equalizer settings
-
This product has the size of an ishuffle with the functions of an ipod nano and more!
Price? I got mine for $39... outstanding!
Cons? Plastic cover. I wish the thing would come with a clip to keep it on your belt. Would it be too much to ask for a more stylish exterior? Well can't have everything.
concert music for the size of a finger!!! -- 2010-02-05 Purchased the samsung U5 MP3 player from amazon and I am so impresswed with the concert sound and the size that it just more than makes up for the gobblygook insructions. Having said that you will figure it out because the sound the richness of quality is just amazing the philarmonic sound is worth everybit of the 36.00 pricetag!

Great MP3 -- 2010-03-02 My son did his homework when he chose this MP3. It sounds great. He loves it. I like it much better than my other son's iPod.
Great player -- 2010-01-09 The P3 is really a great player. For some reason, many people compare it to the iPod Touch, but that doesn't make much sense, considering it's priced to compete better with the iPod NANO.
The P3's screen is made of glass... this means, it is really hard to scratch it, unlike that odd plastic material used in most touchscreen players. The touchscreen itself will seem a bit sticky at first, but after a week or so of having it, you will barely notice this at all. The touchscreen is in most cases very responsive, though the player's UI is notorious for lagging at times. This, though, is something you can easily get used to. There are some silly little widgets, some are handy such as a clock and a calendar, but most seem to be designed for a young child. The background is customizable with images 272x480 pixels for a perfect fit. Also, when you first begin using it, you may notice the battery draining quickly, as the first of three bars will disappear quickly. The meter only stays at full when the battery is very full, i can use this for about 4 days, listening about 2-3 hours a day before i need to charge it.
The screen has some sort of special detection for touch, i believe it's called capacitive sensing, which only responds if it detects a conductor, in other words, the human body. I'm sure it also works with some random special material as well, but for the purposes of the average person, this will only respond to a human body, so you don't have to worry about anything else activating the touchscreen. You may still want to use the Hold button though, as there are volume and a power button on the top of the player.
The screen on this player can play videos at up to 800x600 pixels, which is pretty good for a player of this price. It's no Zune HD, but it sure does look good on the 3 inch screen.
The player body is made of some plastic, but mostly metal. I have heard of these things surviving all kinds of punishment, even have 45 pound weights dropped on them in the gym. The touchscreen and everything still worked in that case, the only problem were cracks and the player being slightly bent of course.
The P3 has all the typical features of a Samsung player, the DSNe, bluetooth, etc. etc. What is really surprising is its support for .flv files, and a flash player for .swf files. Yes, this means you can play flash games and watch flash movies on your P3. It can also be used to pair with a phone as a hands free device via bluetooth.
The only thing i would ever really worry about would be the fact that you can see directly inside of the player, as in you can see all the microchips and whatnot inside of it through the headphone jack. This could lead to dust getting in there, but this is easily solved by either just blowing it or or just leaving headphones in all the time.
In short, this player is really fantastic for 150$, which, again, is the same price as an Nano. You get so much more for almost the same price, it makes me wonder why anyone would ever buy a Nano.
