Better than expected! -- 2010-08-29
Working out great! Bought it for my 12y/o son who needed it to use his smokin' buds. He is having no problems with it. I bought 2 since they were inexpensive and everyone said they break. Still on the 1st one about 3 weeks out.

Nice iPod Remote -- 2010-08-24
Purchased to use in the car. Works great. The only downside is the shape of the buttons. It is a little difficult to feel what you are pressing without looking. Would purchase again.

Very nice for the price -- 2010-08-18
I like the unit. It's easy and does exactly what it says. My iphone is functional while it's recharging. The sound is pretty tin-like. Not for a true audiophile at all but for the price, what would you expect? Something's got to give and it is the sound quality. Overall I am pleased with this purchase.

Wrong model number, no remote -- 2010-07-22
Be careful when you purchase this item. I purchased mine from Amazon. States iP41brc, remote included. When I recieved my order the model number was iP41 without remote. There are two models. One works with the remote, one does not. So I phoned iHome. Guess what? Not only does this model not come with a remote as stated, if purchased seperately you would be out of luck. This model does not work with the remote. It has no reciever for the signal. So this a return for refund. I can say nothing bad about the product as I was never shipped the iP41brc with remote.

Works with Itouch 3rd gen. -- 2010-08-20
The biggest challenge was opening the packaging. Following that, I installed the receiving unit into the itouch dock. The unit immediately swung into action and worked as advertised. I tried it again with the amplified unit on my Honda VTX 1800r and again it worked as expected. I've used wireless units in the past so I am familiar with wireless operation with ipods and this unit surpasses my expectations as the control unit is large and simple to use and works very well with riding gloves.

Works great on motorcycle. -- 2010-08-18
Used with a 32 gig iPod Touch 2nd generation.

I bought the remote for use when wearing headphones while riding sportbike. I used some heavy duty velcro to secure it to the triple tree and it works great. I had no problem manipulating the controls with my gloves on. I am really pleased with this product.

One thing that is worth mentioning is that when the remote receiver is plugged into the iPod, the internal speaker is disabled.

RedEye Universal Remote System for iPhone, iPod touch and iPadRedEye Universal Remote System for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad

Don't waste your time with this product -- 2010-07-09
With several years of amazon buying under my belt, this is my very first review. I hope that can explain just how unsatisfied and frustrated I am with this product to make me go to the trouble. I'll try to be as unbiased and black as white as possible.

I am a fairly competent tech guy. I have a home theater consisting of a 1080 flat screen, a pioneer premiere receiver and a mac mini server supporting an 8TB Drobo raid system storing my media running through a custom XBMC ported player; I know my way around setting up electronics. After finally giving up on working with six different remote controls, I was on a hunt for the perfect all in one. I first tried out the Harmony 1100 which was great all except for controlling a few of my mac's functions. I then moved on to Acoustic Research which didn't support Mac's OS X so back it went to the store. Finally, I tried out a Harmony One which was 95% what I wanted so I thought I could give the RedEye unit a try since I have pretty much every remote software installed on my iPhone already.

I will note here, I don't work for Harmony or any other remote company, I'm just simply working with what I have found while researching online or buying off the rack at Best Buy. I'm sure there are some serious remotes out there but I'm working with a budget of 2-300$ or less here.

RedEye's packaging is great, after pulling off the shrink wrap and seeing it, I was quite excited to get to the guts. Although the actual IR unit looks nice, it is poorly made out of thin plastic. When plugged into the wall, there were several extremely (serious here, they were bright) bright blue LED's that shone through the smoked housing; not a good sign for a dark theater room. They turn off but every time you hit a command, they blink. Following all of the setup instructions as well as following the video on the website, turning my phone's airplane mode on etc etc, I finally found RedEye's wifi signal after 3-4 minutes. Next I had to name the "room" and save it. The RedEye app on my phone crashed several times so I deleted it and downloaded it again from iTunes. Same problem. I went through this process for an hour and gave up and walked the dog.

After 30 more minutes of trying to name my room, it was on to setting up my devices. I entered in my TV and noticed that software was really buggy even when selecting brand names. Putting check marks over top of the right navigation in the software, serious lag etc. I'm a UI designer so I can appreciate the ease of setup a product comes with. Yikes. Another note, the software doesn't search for a specific device by model name ala Harmony yet gives you several different option "test IR bursts" to test your devices. This, in my opinion is fairly freshman and caused a lot of issues that have long been improved upon by other remote controls. This is how it was done with universal remotes a decade ago. (Harmony has every single individual model number already in it's databank online.)

Everything was going fine until I lost the signal for the RedEye box. I tried to see it on my iPad and wife's iPhone but it was simply gone. I tried resetting the unit by poking it's reset button but it didn't work. I gave up for an hour.

Once I finally could see the wifi signal again, I tried my cable box but it wasn't found and asked me to teach it by pointing my remote to the RedEye box. Given that my cable box remote has over two dozen functions that I use, I skipped this step and gave up.

I'm assuming that the hardware does it's job. The blue LED's are annoying seeing how they blink every time you touch a function button on the iphone but I can sort of look past that. They do light up the entire room and you can't just hide the box so if that's a dealbreaker to you, which it will be to many, pass this product by right now.

The main issue is the setup and the UI of the actual iphone app. For example, let's say you are watching a movie, you need to run and get a snack, you have to not only swipe the phone on, you have to launch the app and wait for the phone to see the "room" you created. Sometimes this took 5 seconds, sometimes it took 2 minutes; most of the time, it didn't even show up. THAT is the dealbreaker. I can get past the fact that there is a time period of waking the phone up and launching the app, the fact that there is such a delay in when the phone sees the RedEye wifi network, it kills the whole convenience of quickly making adjustments to your theater.

I wanted to make this work, I really did. I have several iphone remote apps already which work great including Boxee, XBMC and Rowmote so what better to add than an app that could actually control my hardware as well. When working, RedEye's buttons look great. I was able to turn my TV on and off and it worked like a charm but there were three main issues that are making me return it: 1) the setup for other devices, 2) the horribly frustrating and extremely buggy app and 3) the massive lag when going from a sleeping phone to making a device function command.

Final thoughts? Pass on this one, let my research save you the hassle and the near $200 in price.

Solid performance, tricky to set up -- 2010-07-07
After once again not being able to find the last of the 3 remotes I need in order to play a DVD in our house, we ordered the RedEye.

We picked the RedEye because it works no matter where in the house I am, I can turn off the TV from the upstairs bedroom. More importantly, the (free) iPhone app works without requiring any hardware attachment to the iPhone. This was important, as we are always losing remotes, and we didn't need any more hardware to keep track of.

Setup was a pain. The device starts off on its own ad-hoc network, requiring you to connect to it and change it to using your home WiFi (if you have one). It took me 90 minutes and three tries to get it working on our home WiFi. Adding new remote controls to the RedEye app is easy...you tell it the brand name and type of device you are adding (DVD, TV, etc), and it downloads the various remote controls it knows of and has you test them. This was a quick 'n easy way to add my TV and cable box, but it did not recognize my VCR+DVD player, which I had to teach it. (RedEye is continually adding more devices to their online database, so this problem will go away eventually.)

However, it is a joy to use. Mainly because I never have trouble finding my phone :) The buttons on the remote app are large and easy to see. And you can change them, if that's your thing. On the downside, since it works over WiFi, there is a 1-second delay when starting the RedEye app while it connects to the RedEye device. This, plus the effort required to wake up an iPhone that has gone to sleep means that using the iphone as a remote while watching a show requires us to disable sleep on the phone, which runs down the battery. Also the lack of tactile sensation is disconcerting...you have to look at the phone AND at your TV. The app provides a vibrate feature when you press a button, but the vibrate lasts too long...about 1 second. RedEye claims that Apple won't let them vibrate for a shorter time.

Finally, once my phone was set up to work with the device, my wife's phone worked with it with no setup! This is because the RedEye device contains all the configuration and remote info...the app itself remembers almost nothing.

Definitely a product worth investigating if you have too many remotes.

NewKinetix NK100 Re Universal IR Remote Control for iPhoneNewKinetix NK100 Re Universal IR Remote Control for iPhone

Almost Perfect - Beats the Hamony 1100 in almost all features -- 2010-09-03
Almost 5 stars (but for the cons). This is a Must have for Home Theater users, and much cheaper than the Harmony 1100.

This product works as advertised - but could do with some software improvements: see below.

PROS:
* Software is Highly customizable - you can program Activities, move buttons around, assign Macros to specific buttons, rename buttons, program delays and the list goes on. For example - on my Comcast DVR ,I programmed a Macro to "Click" the FF 4 times, with just one touch on the IPOD, instead of 4. The possibilities are endless when it comes to customization. You can also choose to confirm each MACRO - a screen will pop up after you start an activity where you can turn on a device that did not turn on. This is MUCH BETTER than the Harmony remote I own, which is more cumbersome (which directs you to a few screens in sequence).

* Favorites list - you can create different favorite lists with a custom name for each - e.g. My Sports, News & Finance, etc. There are LOGOS for just about every channel out there.

* The device inputs for each activity can be programmed into every Macro e.g. HDMI 1.

* The Hardware is quite responsive, with good range - the components turn on instantly (except if you build a delay into the sequence).

* All Customization is done on your IPOD device - you don't have to connect it to your computer to program it - Unlike the Harmony remotes.

CONS:

* The software does not "remember" which components are on - e.g. if you switch from Watch TV to Watch DVD, the software sends a signal to the TV to turn on - but since it is already on - it will turn off, as well as the AV receiver! This is annoying. To get around this, I had to build a Macro into my Watch Tv activity, to just switch the inputs the Devices, but I still have to access my DVD device to turn it on and control it. This can easily fixed in a firmware update - and SHOULD BE. This is one advantage that Harmony remotes has over the Re.

* The remotes database (albeit decent) should be broader - and should be sorted by equipment model #. For my Onkyo audio receiver, a few buttons were not there - such as "Test tone", and a few other key ones. Thankfully there is a Learning feature - so make sure you have all your OLD remotes.

Overall, the customization of this software beats Logitech's remotes easily....

Once you plug in the Hardware and start the software - the screen immediately flips so that you have the IR emitter pointing the correct way.

You have to spend some time adding devices and programming the activities - but once set up, it is a joy to use (but for the issues above). And you can finally put your other remotes away!

DONT BUY -- 2010-08-11
"The App is ok, but not very useful. Learning all those buttons is very tedious and can be unreliable. Without the sophisticated capabilities found in high end remotes available today (both on the iPhone and standalone) this one is an also-ran. A quick check on-line and you will find several better products for just a bit more money."

How to Change the Battery -- 2010-08-04
I bought this on ebay. Said it had been used but didn't really look like it. When I got it i tried it out and it wouldn't work. I'm thinking its the battery but how to change it? Is it the little compartment on the bottom? If so, it won't open.

Remote will not work for LED color change cube -- 2010-06-28
This remote may work well for the other iHome systems;however, we bought it because it was recommended on the website that it was frequently bought with the iHome LED color changing cube. When we tried it, it wouldn't work. I called the iHome customer support center and they claimed that there is not a remote for the iHome LED color changing system. So I am going to return it for a refund. I cannot review the remote's capabilities since it wouldn't work for this iHome we have. I just wanted to let others know that they shouldn't buy any remote for the LED iHome color changing cube because there really isn't a remote for it.

Does what it's advertised to do. -- 2010-07-11
Some products perform exactly as advertised. This one is even better. Saved buying the iPOD integration for Mazda3s about which everyone complains.
I installed this in my Mazda3 2010, controlling an older Gen 4 iPOD plugged into the center console. I initially placed the remote on the steering wheel where it worked fine. I then changed my mind when I realized that it would look better, be easier for a passenger, and be even more comfortable belted to the hand brake. Works perfectly anywhere in the car. Great device. Really cool.

2 For the Price of 1 !!! -- 2010-07-03
I have owned this remote for over a year now and shared the same headaches and disappointments as other reviewers as to it's inability to charge and operate when plug in with a car charger. I had written this device off as one more device that apple chose not to make compatible with it's many ipod models and was in search of another option. But nothing gave me the convenience of wireless control and simultaneous power charging! That is until I recently updated my iPod Touch with the latest 4G software and purchased The new Belkin Auto Charger for iPhone/iPod and now the remote operates seemlessly and charges with no problems. No more connecting the RF adaptor first and then the audio cable. Just plug and Play!!! All features work albeit your iPod must be already set for music and unlock the screen because the playlist function will not operate. This shopuld be of little concern since now the unit will be powered of the charger.

Apple Radio Remote for iPod (White)Apple Radio Remote for iPod (White)

A great substitute! -- 2010-06-04
My headphone socket broke on my ipod classic, and the only way to 'fix' it was to buy a new ipod! The apple store recommended this device - even though they don't sell them any longer. Although I now have lots of leads, at least I can still listen to my ipod on the move (with the added benefit of listening to the radio!). A much cheaper option than buying a new ipod that's for sure.

Good Product -- 2010-03-21
The remote works well and I have no complaints about the product or the vendor. Thanks
